When starting up a new business, one of the many areas you have to consider is the status of your finances and the budget that is allotted in marketing your products or services to your target market.
These days where there are a lot of emerging businesses with well-funded marketing teams, how can a small business stand out from the competition? Below are some tips that prove good marketing need not be expensive for it to be effective.
Build your networks through LinkedIn
LinkedIn is free and you can start building your professional network through it. Highlight your company’s products or services in your profile to give your current and possible networks an idea of what you offer. Create and nurture a group until you gather a significant number of followers or members. Avoid hard selling, it does not work in LinkedIn. Establish your brand as an expert in your niche by participating or contributing in related conversations.
Content is king, and a lot of businesses venture into blogging creating valuable content for their readers. Writing quality articles might require a little effort and time, but it wouldn’t cost you a penny unless you hire a writer.
If you don’t have a blog for your business yet, start connecting with your target market through niche blogs. You could offer some of your products for the blog owner to use as a give away. As soon as rapport and trust have been built, see if you could be a guest writer, or if you have a blog, why not feature another blog or writer within your niche and they’ll most likely return the favor.
YouTube has thousands of unique visitors every day and millions every month coming from all over the world. It can be a good platform to utilize in online marketing not to mention that it’s free. You can create tutorials, or vlogs (video blogs) featuring your products or services. If you don’t have quality video equipment, still shots and good graphics can definitely do the work. Make sure to include a keyword-rich title and description and of course, a worthwhile video where your audience could benefit from.
Do not underestimate the power of “word-of-mouth”
Keep your customers satisfied and you will be surprised at how the good word about your company can spread like wildfire. Ask them for testimonials or reviews through LinkedIn and in Google Places if applicable. Make sure to publish these testimonials in your website as well.
And again, marketing need not be expensive. All it takes is a little thinking outside of the box sprinkled with hard work dipped in a cup full of creativity.
