In today’s technology and internet-driven world, being found online should not be the only consideration for website owners. Times have changed and so is the medium used for internet searching. A significant number of Internet users now use their smartphones and tablets when going online. The convenience and mobility these gadgets could bring have changed the way people access the internet. It is then a worthwhile effort to have a mobile version of your website to make sure you don’t lose visitors or opportunities and guarantee a good experience to your mobile visitors as well.
Here are some reasons to start going after mobile marketing:
An average US mobile user spends 33% of his time on his mobile device. In a report by InMobi, a global leader and independent ad network in mobile technology, of the 9 hours that an average mobile web user in the United States consumes (2nd quarter of 2012), mobile media seems to be the most popular choice with 2.97 hours of consumption. This shows that people spend more time on their mobile devices like smartphones and tablets than their desktops, laptops, televisions, radio, and other media platforms. Also, about 85% of adults own a mobile phone.
It is also worth noting that these users are most active online because of search (84%) and social media (84%) activities. 69% of them use their gadgets for local search and 55% for shopping. How’s that to convince you?
Mobile is fast, easy, and everywhere. Admit it. You have your phone with you most of the time. Nothing is more convenient than your mobile device as you can bring and use it anywhere, be it when you’re driving, waiting for someone, shopping, or even when you’re lying in bed. The same is true with your potential customers, so take advantage of that.
More and more people are doing mobile commercial transactions. Yes. Mobile commerce seems to be growing. This happens not only for digital products such as apps and music but also for other items. Most of these users see products in their devices through social media sites like Facebook, Google+ or Twitter, up to e-commerce stores such as ebay or amazon and can end up purchasing right from their phones or tablets.
Given these reasons, there’s no way you should discount the power of mobile devices in reaching your target market. True to its name, smartphones are indeed powerful tools with the endless and growing possibilities they have brought to consumers and businesses.
